  • 1. All Day Training Course

Can every day be a training day in the salon? We say yes and give you a few tips to think about this week on how to do it.

As we learn in the video:

    Create a Buddy System

Team up stylists based on their strengths and weaknesses so they can learn from each other. Make sure their stations are next to each other.

    Create Mutual Accountability

Make sure the buddies understand that they must both perform as a team, not as individuals.

    Change Stations Frequently

Change stations (and buddies) frequently. This keeps things interesting and fresh and ensures that all day training is always new and fun.

The buddy system with frequent changes and accountability creates an entire team of mini-managers and mini-trainers!

  • 9. January Planning Course

As many salons in the world are currently experiencing their busiest time of the year, they may not be thinking about how to maximize down-time when things slow down a bit in January. Here are a few thoughts to keep in mind now to make the most of January.

As we learn in the video, take a few moments to think about what happens after the year starts and consider:

    Increased Training

This is a great time to be booking in training for cut, color and business building. Plan now on your books for increased training if you think there will be a few gaps in the client schedule.

Plan for a “Perfect Day” in the Salon

The Perfect Day concept is much like a dress rehearsal for a play. As taught in the video, plan one day to have your “dress rehearsal” where every player in your salon follows the script exactly as written and can experience what a perfect day would look like.

    Homework:

Get out that calendar for January now and ask yourself if you will be maximizing your down-time and also consider planning the Perfect Day for your salon.

  • 10. Answering Your Questions Course

You’ve got questions and we’ve got answers. This week we answer your questions e-mailed in about Facebook and social media.

As we learn in the video:

Facebook is a social media phenomenon and salons are curious how to integrate this tool into their salon marketing plan. Our tips:

You Need to Know Your Goal

If your salon is going to be on Facebook, you need to know why. Here are some uses of this online tool:

    • Connect with current clients
    • Find new clients
    • Connect with staff
    • Find new staff
    • Find models for training

Be Careful About Stylists on Facebook

It may not be a good idea for your stylists to “friend” their clients on Facebook. This poses the danger of stylists censoring themselves and their friends on their Facebook page, or, of clients learning a bit too much about the personal lives of your stylists.

    Understanding Facebook is Vital

Even if you determine that Facebook is not a viable tool for your business, you still need to understand what it is and how it works. Your future staff and clients will be using social media more than ever. Now is the time to make sure you understand it.
